As of today i have removed the guestbook
from Smith Motorsport and have replaced it with a Forum, The thought
behind this is to promote more general conversation amongst teams,
Fans and anybody else who comes here, The Forum is not Just for
Pickup Truck Racing, you can discuss F1, Nascar, Stock cars and
anything else that takes your fancy, You will also be able to upload
images. This is work in progress as i will make new topics to cater
for all. I would also welcome suggestions for what you would all
like to see in there and i will do my best to make it happen.

Provisional dates from the 2010 Calendar have been
released and i will list them below, 2009 was a real good season but
looking at 2010 it looks like it will be even bigger and better, We
will once again be racing with the big trucks and also alongside
Time attack (modified live) and club level racing. We will be
making a return to Knockhill, Mallory Park which will be part of the
oval championship, Mondello Park in Ireland, Donington Park and
Snetterton. I will also be planning to try and broadcast at least 2
rounds live on the internet, something which i have not done before
but i have what i need to make it happen, Unfortunately the view
will be limited to the start finish straight but i am sure for the
people who cannot make it that this will be better that nothing so
watch this space for further details. I will add the 2010 race dates
below instead of the race dates page as this years website is going
to be archived as i am currently designing the 2010 site and this
site will be archived into the new one so we dont lose any results
or pictures, The new site will still be www.smithmotorsport.co.uk

After receiving the latest News Letter it would appear
provisionally that Rockingham Rounds are going to be spread over 2
days again ie Qualifying Saturday and 2 races on Sunday. This makes
it so much easier for the teams as opposed to trying to squeeze it
all into the 1 day.
Thursday 25th June 2009
This post is a little late but a couple of weeks ago
our very own crew chief, Steven Fishburn started his racing career
in briSCA F2, He raced on the Saturday at Birmingham where he
managed to get a 10th place and get through to the final and
finishing all of his other races without damage, then on the Sunday
he raced at Hednesford where once again he finished all of his races
without damage. As the weekend went on and Steven grew more
confident with the car he started to get quicker so i think with
more seat time he will be starting to bring his own Trophy's
home.

Today it
was announced that the Pickup Truck's have been given the opportunity to race
at Donington in 2009, It is going to be the last race held at
Donington in 2009 before the track is transformed for F1 in 2010. This is
going to be a very big weekend and is expected to attract
very large crowds, And if that was not enough it will be the first
time that a new format is tried. This will consist of two heats
and a grand final, all 3 races are championship rounds. This like
all other meetings is going to be a meeting surely not to be missed.
The race dates page has been updated to reflect the new
rounds.
Thursday 12th
February 2009
It has been announced today that the 2009 calendar has been
revised once again, The rounds scheduled to take place at Croft on
the 4th and the 5th of May have been cancelled due to circumstances
which have been well publicised in the national press and
various motorsport publications. The scheduled rounds have been
replaced and will now take place on the 16th and 17th of May at
Silverstone. The race dates page has been updated to reflect
this.
Friday 16th
January 2009
It was announced
today that the 2009 calendar has been revised, So the August
Rockingham date has now been moved to the final weekend in May. This
is better for the teams as the original calendar meant there was
only one week for the teams to switch from road race spec to oval
spec. Our Race Dates page has been updated to reflect the
change.
Monday 06th January 2009
We have now
added a blog to the website so that you can follow our
progress as we build our 2nd Truck from scratch, This will
be regularly updated with reports of what has been happening and including
pictures of the work in progress.
Monday 22nd December 2008
Following a Drivers Meeting on Sunday 21st
December 2008 at the Holiday Inn in Corby there have been a number
of changes announced which we will bring to you
here,
There are 2 Championships for 2009, The
Oval Championship and the Overall Championship.
Qualifying format has now changed and will now
be in the format of One qualifying session split into 2 sections, In
the first section the 10 fastest go onto the grid for the first race
in the reverse order they qualified then in the second section of
qualifying the same format applies but is applied to the
second race. The change to the second section of qualifying will be
signaled by a union jack flag shown from the starting
gantry.
The
Championship from 2009 will be operating a success ballast system,
The system will be applied to the first three posistions in each
race, 1st posistion adds 30kg of ballast, 2nd adds 20kg and 3rd adds
10kg of ballast. it is decreased in increments of 10kg each time a
truck carrying the ballast finishes outside of the top
3.
Also there is the
facility to run 2 sprint races and a feature race at 2 venue's in
2009, 1 Road Course and 1 at Rockingham.
The Pickup's will also
be supporting the British Truck Racing Association at 4 events in
2009 |
